Election Chairman George Garcia warned political candidates to refrain from using sexist remarks and lewd terms during political campaigns.

This, after another candidate went under fire for his sexist remarks toward women during one of his political rallies.

A video of Peter "Senior Pedro" Unabia, who is running for reelection as Misamis Oriental governor, is making the rounds on social media wherein he was shown talking about his scholarship for nursing students.

"Itong nursing scholarship para lang ito sa mga babae. Hindi pwede ang lalaki. At dapat 'yung mga babae, gwapa. Hindi naman p'wedeng pangit kasi kung nanghihina na ang mga lalaking pasyente kapag hinarap ng pangit na nurse, piano naman? Lalala yung sakit nyan!" was his jest using the local dialect.

In response, Garcia said he will push a resolution to address the growing concern about the use of sexist remarks and sexually charged jokes in campaign rallies.

"Sexist remarks  and gender discrimination has no place in a  civilized society , more so in a political campaign.  We will not stop issuing show cause orders until somebody is punished," he said in a statement.

"I will sponsor next week a resolution for en banc consideration declaring campaign rallies, caucuses, polling places, precincts and canvassing centers and online election platforms as safe spaces to strengthen our anti discrimination guidelines."

Last week, Pasig City congressional candidate Christian “Ian” Sia was heavily criticized for the use of green jokes during his campaign.

A video obtained by ABS-CBN's Katrina Domingo on Thursday showed Sia joking about single mothers.

“Minsan sa isang taon, ang mga solo parent na babae na nireregla pa – Nay, malinaw, nireregla pa – at nalulungkot, minsan sa isang taon, puwedeng sumiping ho sa akin,” Sia said in the viral video.

He later apologized, saying it was only meant to catch the attention of the audience.
