MANILA — “Glad I could help.”

This was the reaction of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to Vice President Sara Duterte who "thanked" him for her renewed relationship with father former President Rodrigo Duterte, according to Palace Press Officer Claire Castro.

In an earlier interview, the Duterte noted the "irony" as she expressed gratitude to Marcos because "there was forgiveness between" her and her father "for all that has happened” in their lives."

Castro however said that the younger Duterte should first thank her father, saying that the former president was responsible for setting the course of actions that ultimately led to their renewed relationship.

“Dahil kung siya man po ay nagkaroon ng pagkakataon at nagkaroon ng oras kasama ang kanyang ama, ay dahil po ito sa kasong [extrajudicial killings],” Castro said in a Palace briefing.

(Because if there is now an opportunity to be with her father, that is because of the cases of extrajudicial killings)

“Kung hindi po naganap at hindi nagawa ang sinasabing aksyon patungkol sa war on drugs, at walang nag-complain, hindi naman din sila magkakaroon ng pagkakataon na makapunta sa The Hague," Castro added.

(If not for what happened and what was done in the war on drugs, and nobody filed a complaint, then there would have been no opportunity to go to The Hague)

The Dutertes have accused Marcos and his allies of sending the former president to The Hague, Netherlands to "eliminate" a supposed political rival.

Duterte is currently in  the custody of the International Criminal Court, where he faces the charge of crimes against humanity in relation to his bloody drug war.
