MANILA — Former Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales has endorsed Stella Quimbo in the mayoralty race in Marikina City, citing the outgoing lawmaker's integrity and principles in public service.

In a statement, Morales said she worked with Quimbo when she was a founding commissioner at the Philippine Competition Commission and when she was still still in the academe.

“Even in that limited time, I saw how seriously she took her role. She understood systems. She valued good governance,” said Morales in a statement.

“In all her years in government, Stella has never faced a single case of corruption. That alone speaks volumes. But more than being clean, she's capable. Her legislative track record-on universal healthcare, education reform, and fair budgeting — shows depth, dedication, and results,” she added.

The former Ombudsman said Marikina “stands at a turning point now that the city is facing debt, worsening floods, and pressure on healthcare and education.”

“This is not the time for political experiments. Hindi ito panahon ng pagsubok-subok lang. Marikina needs a leader who knows what she's doing,” she said.

“To the people of Marikina: Leaders like Stella Luz Quimbo don't come often. Let's not waste this chance to elect someone with both heart and competence,” she said.

Quimbo is facing Maan Teodoro, wife of suspended Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro, in the midterm elections.
