The ceremony was not only an occasion of mourning for his passing, but also a celebration of gratitude and recognition for his significant contributions to the Catholic Church.

The mass coincided with the observance of Divine Mercy Sunday, celebrated on the Second Sunday of Easter, the Octave of Easter, on April 27.

According to Parish Priest Reverend Father Mark Adame Bakari, Pope Francis embodied mercy and compassion throughout his papacy. In his homily, Fr. Bakari shared a message with the attendees, highlighting the late pontiff’s vision for the Church.

"Si Pope Francis, napakarami niyang (nagawa) through his gestures at iyong kanyang mga advocacies, at iyong kanyang pagnanais sa isang simbahan na tinatawag niya laging 'ospedale da campo' o field hospital -- na bukas sa lahat, sa mga wounded, sa mga nangangailangan ng awa ng Diyos, sa malasakit ng Diyos. Ito siguro iyong mensahe na gusto kong iwan," said Fr. Bakari.

Hundreds of Catholic faithful attended the mass, which was held at the same church where the popemobile used by Pope Francis during his 2015 visit to the Philippines is kept.

The popemobile has been temporarily displayed outside the church, allowing visitors to view the historic vehicle. It will remain there until May 5 before being brought to other churches across Metro Manila.
