MANILA — Candidates of the Makabayan coalition were in La Union over the weekend as bets continued to make the rounds weeks before the May 12 elections.

The Makabayan coalition is in La Union and conducted various campaign activities.

ACT Teachers party-list Rep. France Castro, Gabriela Women's Party Rep. Arlene Brosas, Amirah "Mek" Lidasan of Moro and IP organization Sandugo, Danilo Ramos of Kilusang Magsasaka ng Pilipinas, and Ronnel Arambulo of fisherfolk group Pamalakaya went to Barangay Baybay where they met with the fisherfolk community.

They vowed to push for true reform in the fishing industry, including the right to fish within municipal waters — defined by law as 15 kilometers from shore — without the interference of large commercial fishing vessels.

Alyn Andamo of Filipino Nurses United, former Gabriela Rep. Liza Maza and Mimi Doringo of urban poor group Kadamay meanwhile visited San Fernando City Public Market to campaign for free health services while former Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casiño met with former Candon City Mayor Allen Singson.

The entire Makabayan slate will be attending the Miting de Avance of Makabayan Ilocos at San Fernando City Plaza in La Union on Sunday night.

LAPID HOLDS MOTORCADE IN QC, ABALOS VISITS BULACAN

Administration bet Sen. Lito Lapid held a motorcade in Novaliches, Quezon City, with Kapamilya star Coco Martin.

Former Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos visited Bulacan province, where he reportedly touted his accomplishments in the anti-illegal drug campaign during his stint at the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

He also took pride in his "solid" track record and reiterated that he will advocate against value-added tax on power to bring down electricity rates.

Makati Mayor Abby Binay meanwhile joined a campaign rally in Caloocan City on Saturday where Mayor Dale Gonzalo "Along" Malapitan endorsed her senatorial bid.

In her speech, Binay's office said she intends to expand nationwide the benefits in Makati City such as free maintenance medicines and a quality daycare system.

ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo on Saturday visited former Vice President Leni Robredo in her residence in Naga.

His office said Robredo expressed gratitude to Tulfo for the ‘good synergy’ between her non-government organization Angat Buhay and Department of Social Welfare and Development during his stint as its chief.

Former Sen. Manny Pacquiao meanwhile joined the campaign sortie of Manila mayoral candidate Isko Moreno in Baseco, Manila on Saturday night, where his former rival in the 2022 presidential elections endorsed his senatorial bid.

1-Rider Partylist Rep. Bonifacio Bosita campaigned in General Santos City, South Cotabato where he reiterated his advocacy of improving road laws to ensure the safety of commuters and riders.
