MANILA — A member of the administration slate getting the endorsement of Vice President Sara Duterte is a "non-issue", a lawmaker from dominant majority party Lakas-CMD said, noting however that is is important for them to be "present" with other candidates during the campaign.

Of the 11 candidates under the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas, only Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar did not attend the Lakas-CMD assembly on Tuesday.

Duterte has endorsed Villar alongside the PDP-Laban's senatorial candidates but the Las Piñas representative remains with Alyansa.

Sen. Imee Marcos, whom Duterte has also endorsed, opted out of the slate in March.

"It's a non-issue. Whether you are endorsed by VP Sara or not, you are still part of the Alyansa," Bataan 1st District Rep. Geraldine Roman said, adding members of Alyansa also need to consider "the other side."

"Huwag tayo maging polarized dito because sabi ko nga, politics is addition, and the key to victory is actually being inclusive, both sides. That is why you can even notice some candidates who actually try to appeal to both sides," she said.

Roman said the party would still support Villar, daughter of Sen. Cynthia Villar and sister of Sen. Mark Villar.

She said, however, that Villar missing the Lakas-CMD assembly was a missed opportunity for party members to get to know her and learn about her legislative agenda.

“[M]arami akong mga kasamahan nangihinayang. Dahil ito na ‘yung magandang oportunidad na makilala kami na nasa partido from different parts of the country as far as Mindanao, up to Luzon, from Ilocos, up to the most southern provinces of Mindanao," she said.

(There were many members who felt she missed an opportunity. Because this was a good opportunity to meet members from different parts of the country)

"Kung hindi ka namin makikilala, paano ka namin ipaglalaban (If we do not know you, how can we fight for you)? Nevertheless, we are team players and we will fight for the 11 senatorial candidates,” she added.

Rep. Villar joined the Alyansa rally in Pampanga on Wednesday.
