LA CASTELLANA, Negros Occidental — Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday said that she will return to the Netherlands by the end of the month to celebrate her birthday with her mom, and her father — former President Rodrigo Duterte — who is still detained at the Hague.

The Vice President said that her mother Elizabeth Zimmerman was unable to visit the former President in his detention facility as she did not have the necessary documents to qualify for visitation hours.

“Noong nagkausap kami ni Pangulong Duterte kahapon, [sabi niya] inaantay niya daw na makabisitya yung nanay ko. Sabi ko sa birthday ko na lang magkita tayong tatlo,” the Vice President told reporters here.

“Nagpromise ako sa mga magulang ko na sa birthday ko, sila ang kasama ko so babalik ako sa the Hague,” she said.

The Vice President will celebrate her 47th birthday on May 31st.

She was the first Duterte relative to jet off to the Netherlands right after their family’s patriarch was arrested in March, and whisked off the face the International Criminal Court on charges of crimes against humanity.

After the Vice President returned to the Philippines, her siblings — Davao Rep. Paolo Duterte and their youngest sister Veronica — took turns in staying in the Hague to serve as their father’s next of kin.

The Vice President said that she has asked her elder brother Paolo to return to the Philippines to help in their family’s campaign for Duterte-allied senatorial candidates.

One of their uncles is expected to fly to the Hague to replace Paolo as the former president’s next of kin there.
