MANILA — Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba will visit the Philippines this late April, Malacañang said Wednesday.

In a statement, the Presidential Communications Office said Ishiba will undertake an official visit to the country on April 29-30, 2025.

The PCO said Ishiba's meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. "will aim to deepen and improve economic and development cooperation, political and defense engagements, and people-to-people exchanges."

The leaders are also expected to discuss regional and global developments as well as explore "new pathways towards peace and stability under the ‘Strengthened Strategic Partnership’ between the two countries."

Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos will welcome Ishiba and his spouse, Mrs. Ishiba Yoshiko, in official engagements at Malacañan Palace on April 29, according to the PCO.

In October 2024, Marcos Jr. and Ishiba met in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summits.
