MANILA -- One person was killed and another injured in a shooting incident in Tayum town, Abra on Monday, April 21.

The fatality was identified as Jay-ar Tanura, 27 and a resident of Barangay Gaddani.

Meanwhile, Jordan Calaustro Barcena, a resident of Barangat Budac, suffered gunshot wounds and was brought to the hospital. He is now in stable condition.

The Tayum Municipal Police said they received a phone call from a concerned citizen about the shooting incident that transpired at Sitio Agdamay in Barangay Budac around 4 p.m.

The said area is only about two kilometers away from the municipal police station.

Tayum mayoral candidate Kathlia Cariño Alcantara also reported that her convoy was fired at while on a campaign sortie in the barangay, the police added.

“Acting on the said report, personnel of Tayum MPS led by P/Lt. Joel Cagay-an, together with RMFB 15 led by P/Lt. Johnny Binwag and members of the Philippine Army, responded to the said call and while along the way and upon reaching Sitio Agdamay, they heard a lone gunfire,” the Tayum MPS said in a police report.

Police intercepted a black Ford Ranger driven by Jomel Barbieto Molina, 21, and confiscated from him a calibre .45 pistol without serial number and markings, and three magazines loaded with seven live ammunition each.

Another calibre .45 pistol without serial number and markings was also found inside the vehicle. It was allegedly owned by Tanura.

According to the Tayum MPS, initial investigation showed that Alcantara and former Bangued Mayor Ryan Luna’s convoy exchanged gunfire with the convoy of Barangay Budac Chairman Walter Tugadi.

“Meanwhile, the Tayum MPS discovered along Sitoo Agdamay, Barangay Budac one Ford Ranger bearing plate number AAE 7239 with one bullet hole on the front windshield,” the police report said.

Police added that Barcena identified Luna and Raffy Tejero as part of the shooters onboard one of the vehicles of Alcantara’s convoy.

Police recovered several spent shell casings from calibre .45 and 5.56 mm firearms at the scene.

A white Toyota pickup truck said to be part of Alcantara’s convoy also bore a bullet hole. It was found at Luna’s compound in Barangay Dangdangla, Bangued.
