The Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno in Manila opened its doors to the faithful on Holy Wednesday with a Mass and a musical play.

"Pabasa ng Pasyong Mahal", a traditional religious practice, will be led until Holy Tuesday by Reverend Father Ramon Jade Licuanan, the rector and parish priest of the basilica also known as Quiapo Church.

For Holy Wednesday, nine Holy masses will be celebrated with the following schedule.

Morning: 5 a.m., 6 a.m., 7 a.m., 8 a.m.,9 a.m., and 10 a.m.
Afternoon: 12:15 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Churchgoers can watch the musical Senakulo, "Timon: Sa Landas ng Nagniningas na Pag-asa, a special Lenten presentation of the Parish Youth Ministry", at the Plaza Miranda grounds at 7 p.m.

Directed by John Michael Baluyot and written by Jerk San Jose, the musical Senakulo will feature original songs about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Nazareno.

Some devotees were also seen carrying out their annual "penitensya" ritual in front of the church early Wednesday.
