MANILA — Tha Paranaque integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) saw a surge in passengers eager to travel to their home provinces on Holy Wednesday.

Passenger lines started forming as early as 5 a.m. at the PITX entrance, with the ground floor already full of travelers. Seats in the waiting areas, particularly near the departure gates for provincial routes, were quickly occupied.

The PITX’s second floor, which houses ticket booths for buses heading south towards Bicol, Visayas, and Mindanao, remained relatively quiet, though a surge in passengers was anticipated later in the morning when ticket booths opened.

According to PITX, passenger numbers had already surpassed 15,000 by 6 a.m., significantly higher than previous days recorded around the same time, indicating the start of the Holy Week travel rush.

PITX has also released their provincial bus schedules and operating hours throughout their social media pages and encouraged passengers to plan their trips carefully.

Some passengers said they encountered difficulty navigating the transport hup due to large crowds.

“Mahirap pumasok dun eh kasi madaming tao kailangan makiayon ka sa agos ng tao… Kasi pag nakisiksik ka, gaganunin ka eh ang tanda ko na, ang bigat-bigat kaya ng dala ko… Pero pag hindi naman okay lang ang pagpasok ng tao pero ngayon madami,” said 68-year-old Ellen Salisi, who was travelling to Quezon.

But other passengers like Kat Borja, who reserved tickets in advance, reported a smooth and hassle-free experience.

Borja mentioned that despite having traveled from other bus terminals, PITX provided the most convenience.

PITX has yet to release the updated figures on the total number of passengers and any potential changes to trip schedules.

The terminal is expected to remain busy throughout Holy Week.
