MANILA — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief reminded troops of the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division in Rizal to be prepared to secure Metro Manila, "the seat of government."

General Romeo Brawner Jr. said the AFP is counting on the 2ID to support the seat of government and maintain the country’s stability.

“One of the most important tasks of the 2ID is to support the seat of government—Metro Manila... Thus, your spirit of unity and professionalism is what we at the GHQs are counting on," Brawner said during the 2ID's 49th anniversary celebration at Camp General Mateo Capinpin in Tanay.

Brawner explained this was because of the division's proximity to Metro Manila.

“Because of the proximity of the 2ID to Metro Manila, ito ang isa sa divisions na kapag nagkaroon ng giyera, for example, or destabilization, itong 2ID ang isa sa mga tututok o reresponde sa threats na ito. Nakapalibot ito sa Metro Manila,” Brawner said in a chance interview.

Brawner also emphasized that the military remains united and professional, and focused on the challenges the country is facing.

“It’s not just a reminder, pero ‘yan ang panawagan natin sa lahat ng mga sundalo na dapat tayo ay united and we are always professional. Napakaraming problema ng ating bansa, not just the internal security threats, nandiyan pa ang lawless elements... and of course, sa West Philippine Sea, nakikita natin ang hinaharap nating mga problema,” the AFP chief said.

“We are calling on our soldiers to focus on our job, be professional and we should be united as an organization,” he added.
