The Philippine Inter-Agency Humanitarian Contingent (PIAHC) is returning home Sunday night following the completion of its mission in earthquake-hit Myanmar.

The team provided essential support after the recent 7.7 magnitude earthquake that killed more than 3,600 in Myanmar.

The contingent, composed of 89 personnel from various agencies, will arrive in the Philippines with a formal welcome ceremony scheduled at Villamor Air Base to honor their service.

Earlier this week, Defense Secretary Gilberto C. Teodoro, Jr. relayed President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.’s congratulations, commending the team for their outstanding work.

OCD Administrator Undersecretary Ariel F. Nepomuceno, who was present during the send-off ceremony on April 1, will also welcome the contingent upon their return. 

The team includes members from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), Philippine Air Force (PAF), Philippine Army (PA), Department of Health - Philippine Emergency Medical Assistance Team (PEMAT), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Department of Environment and Natural Resources Emergency Response Team (DENR ERT), Energy Development Corporation and Apex Mining Co., Inc.

Lt. Erwen Diploma, the Contingent Commander, was thankful for the opportunity to serve.

“It is a great honor for me as the Contingent Commander and my team to serve in the name of our country. I will proudly convey this message to every member of the PIAHC team, whose dedication and hard work made this possible," he said.
