MANILA — House Assistant Majority Leader and Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong on Thursday questioned vlogger Sass Rogando Sasot for her remarks following the House Tri Committee citing her in contempt.

Sasot was among the individuals cited by the House panel on Tuesday for repeatedly skipping its hearings.

In a Facebook livestream, Sasot said it was an honor to be cited in contempt by the House of Representatives.

"Una sa lahat, may honor pa ba siya? I mean these are people who portray themselves as heroes but do not have the honor to face a legitimate investigation and to face the public and explain themselves under oath kung bakit may mga sinasabi silang hindi tama at hindi totoo,” Adiong said in response.

“So I think being honorable is to not only being brave online but brave enough to face the charges and under oath express your sentiments,” he added.

The House Tri Comm cited in contempt and ordered the detention of Sasot, Jeffrey Celiz, and Lorraine Badoy for “refusal to answer summons without legal excuse.”

Vlogger Mark Lopez was cited in contempt and ordered detained for "undue interference during the proceedings,” following a social media post that attacked the House panel.

Adiong acknowledged the vloggers and social media personalities who attended the Tri Comm hearing.

“I thank those vloggers who have participated in our committee hearings. I take these people as courageous enough to explain themselves and take the chance and to take the opportunity granted to them,” he said.

“Kasi binibigyan naman sila ng invitation and due process para explain sa deliberation sa committee kung anong pwede nilang maibigay at input na may dagdag sa pag-formulate at pag-draft natin ng isang batas,” Adiong added.

The House leader said those who appeared at the hearing gave inputs that will help the lawmakers in crafting legislation on fake news, social media and other related issues.

“So I thank them, for continuously engaging the committee and for explaining their side. Kasi ‘yun naman talaga dapat satin dito na dapat ay kung mayroong, sila kasi ‘yung parte doon sa sektor na iyon at sila yung very much active doon sa platform na yun,” Adiong said.
