MANILA — A member of the prosecution team aiming to convict Vice President Sara Duterte in the impeachment court on Friday said they were "ready" in case the Senate finally decides to begin the trial.

"I believe that the prosecution team is ready. Weekly meron kaming meeting, deliberation, preparation about the articles of impeachment that we will be presenting to the impeachment court once the trial commences," Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro told Teleradyo Serbisyo.

Luistro is among the 11 House members who will serve as prosecutors in Duterte's impeachment trial.

She said she wanted to be in charge of the second article of impeachment, which tackled Duterte's alleged misuse of confidential funds.

The lawmaker said they would tap private individuals to be part of the prosecution team.

"We have not finalized yet the list of private prosecutors kaya hindi pa namin kayang i-disclose," she said.

Duterte has filed a petition at the Supreme Court for a temporary restraining order and writ of preliminary injunction, saying the impeachment complaint the House endorsed violated a one-year ban on impeachment complaints after one has been initiated.

Another petition, filed by Kingdom of Jesus Christ lawyer Israelito Torreon and others, sought a similar remedy, arguing Duterte's impeachment was "procedurally defective, constitutionally infirm, and jurisdictionally void."

Senate President Francis Escudero has insisted that the impeachment trial of Duterte will commence when Congress returns from break on June 2, adding that signature campaigns will not pressure him to revise his timeline.
