MANILA — The National Capital Regional Police Office has recorded a 17.04% decrease in eight focus crimes between November 23, 2024 to March 2, 2025, it said in a statement on Friday.

The Philippine National Police uses focus crimes —  theft, robbery, rape, murder, homicide, physical injury, car theft and motorcycle theft — to gauge the peace and order situation of an area.

The police office said crime incidents dropped to 1,524 from 1,837 against the same period last year, or 313 fewer cases.

Crime Clearance Efficiency — the number of crimes cleared against the total — stands at 98.82%, while Crime Solution Efficiency — the number of cases solved against the total — rose to 72.24%, a 3.44% increase from the previous year, the statement adds.

The PNP considers a case cleared when at least one suspect has been arrested, there is enough evidence to file a complaint before the prosecutor or court. Cleared cases include those that have been solved.

Cases are considered solved when a suspect has been identified, taken into custody and charged.

Cases can also be considered solved when “some elements beyond police control” prevent the arrest of a suspect. These instances include the victim refusing to file charges or when the suspect dies or flees.

OPERATIONS CONDUCTED

The five police districts under the NCRPO have conducted 2,729 anti-illegal drug operations  —  a 25.82% increase from the same period last year.

They have also arrested 4,028 drug personalities — a 20.13% increase — and confiscated P267.6 million in illegal drugs.

They have also confiscated bett and gambling paraphernalia amounted to P1,883,471, or up by 29.63% compared to the previous period.

NCR police also strengthened operations against loose firearms leading to seizure of 815 illegal firearms—a 39.79% increase—while conducting 776 operations (46.42% increase).

The number of individuals arrested for firearms-related violations also rose to 796, a 47.41% increase from last year.

Metro cops have also arrested 662,150 violators in their enforcement of local ordinances that led to the collection of P180.8 million in fines.
