MANILA — Vice President Sara Duterte visited the wake of a soldier who was killed in action during an encounter with the New People’s Army.

In a Facebook post Thursday, Duterte extended her condolences to the family of the slain soldier in Aloran, Misamis Occidental last week.

“Personal kong ipinaabot ang aking taos-pusong pakikiramay sa pamilya ng nasawing sundalo na si Cpl. Rovic Jhun Boniao ng Philippine Army sa kanilang tahanan sa Aloran, Misamis Occidental noong nakaraang linggo,” Duterte said.

“Ikinasawi ni Cpl. Boniao ang nangyaring engkwentro laban sa teroristang grupo na New People's Army (NPA),” she said, without specifying when and where the encounter occurred.

“Nakakalungkot isipin na dalawang maliliit na anak ang naulila dahil sa isang giyera resulta ng baluktot na aydolohiya ng mga NPA,” the Vice President added.

Duterte honored the slain soldier’s valor and service to the nation.

“Ipinaabot ko sa kanyang pamilya ang aking pasasalamat sa walang katumbas na serbisyo at pagmamahal na inialay ni Cpl. Boniao para sa ating bayan,” she said.

“Ipinapaabot ko rin ang aking pakikiramay sa buong Sandatahang Lakas ng Pilipinas sa pagkawala ng isang magiting na miyembro ng inyong hanay. Saludo kami sa kagitingan ni Cpl. Boniao!”
