MANILA — The Bureau of Fire Protection marked the start of Fire Prevention Month by highlighting the significant contributions of women firefighters and responders in emergencies, especially during fires.

The event, "Women on Fire," featured the fourth nationwide fire drill which highlighted the importance of readiness and awareness in fire safety.

Participants can take part in games while learning essential skills such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and understanding proper techniques for using a fire extinguisher, among other important safety practices.

Tarroza also reported that the number of fire incidents recorded between March 1 and March 4 this year is significantly higher than those recorded during the same period last year.

Tarroza said that among the leading causes of fires include defective outlets, overloading, and open flames such as lit cigarettes and unattended fires from gas stoves.
