Thousands of Muslims gathered at the Manila Golden Mosque early Monday morning to mark the end of Ramadan or the month-long fasting period.

As early as 6:00 a.m., members of the Muslim community in Manila had already begun preparing for the Eid’l Fitr celebrations.

Families and friends laid out prayer mats and came together in worship, marking the beginning of the three-day festival.

Eid’l Fitr, which marks the conclusion of Ramadan, starts with a special prayer followed by festive gatherings, sharing of meals, and gift-giving among loved ones.

On Sunday, Bangsamoro Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulrauf Guiani announced the sighting of the crescent moon--the official start of Eid’l Fitr.

The Islamic celebration is considered one of the most significant events in Islam, marking the end of the month-long fasting that began on March 2, 2025.

The date of Eid’l Fitr varies across different parts of the world, depending on the sighting of the new moon.

"At the end of Ramadan, we hold the Eid’l Fitr prayer, marking the end of our 30-day fast. After saying our prayers, we share meals with family," said Alnour Madatuan, a Muslim devotee.

Many members of the Muslim community emphasized that their prayers serve as a means of spiritual purification, seeking forgiveness for sins committed in the past.

The Philippine government earlier declared Tuesday, April 1, as a national holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr. The Eid celebrations will continue until Wednesday.
