MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged Muslims to not forget their responsibility to one another as they celebrate Eid'l Fitr or the Festival of Breaking the Fast on Monday, March 31.

In a statement, Marcos described Ramadan as "more than a celebration," saying it is a testament to Muslims' desire for shared humanity, strengthening bonds of family and friendship, as well as unity among peers.

"Beyond the values that Ramadan emphasized, let us continue to be inspired to extend our hands in service, uplift those in need, and help find joy in those who seek it," Marcos said.

"Only through living with compassion and inclusivity can we appreciate and understand what Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) sought to accomplish—a life where harmony and love prevail upon us all," he said.

"May the acts of kindness, engaging conversations, and delightful activities that bring communities together define our actions moving forward."

House Speaker Martin Romualdez, in his Eid'l Fitr statement, acknowledged Muslim communities' "vital role" in fostering economic growth, cultural richness, and national unity.

"May this Eid be filled with joy, love and togetherness. Let us celebrate this occasion with open hearts, remembering that our diversity is our strength, and that true progress is achieved when we stand together as one people," he said.

Eid'l Fitr is a major Islamic festivity as it marks the end of Ramadan — a month of fasting, which began last March 2, 2025.

The date of Eid'l Fitr and Ramadan may vary in different areas as countries follow independent moonsighting.

Eid'l Fitr, traditionally celebrated for three days, is a time of celebration for Muslims across the world.

Thousands of Muslims gathered at the Manila Golden Mosque early Monday morning to mark the occasion.

As early as 6 a.m., Muslim families and friends laid out prayer mats on the floor as they came together in worship.

"Kapag end of Ramadan po, nagsasagawa po kami ng Eid’l Fitr o prayer after po ng 30 days na pag-aayuno o buwan ng Ramadan. After po ng prayer, sabay-sabay na kaming kakain," said Alnour Madatuan, a Muslim devotee.

The Philippine government earlier declared Tuesday, April 1, as a national holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr. The celebrations will continue until Wednesday.
