MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Monday it would start deploying on April 4 the automated counting machines (ACMs) for the May polls.

Comelec officials led by chairman George Garcia inspected the ongoing pre-election logic accuracy test (pre-lat) for the 110,000 ACMs at its warehouse in Biñan City, Laguna.

Yan ang purpose ng pre-lat, bago pakawalan ang lahat ng mga makina, lahat ng components ng makina - kahit yung mga USB dapat mag-undergo ng pre-lat para alamin kung eksakto sa gusto nating mangyari yung gagawin nung makina at tsaka nung USB,” Comelec Chairman George Garcia said.

According to Garcia, the commission will use 80,000 SIM cards from Smart Telecommunications, 40,000 from Globe Telecom, and 40,000 from Dito.

Garcia said 7,000 satellites from Starlink would be deployed to far-flung areas with poor internet connection to make sure that the election results would be transmitted immediately.

The Comelec is also scheduled to deploy official ballots by April in the Bangsamoro Region, CARAGA, and Batanes.

Garcia said ACMs and official ballots should be in their respective provinces on or before May 5 as the commission needs to conduct final testing and sealing before election day.
