MANILA - Filipino Muslims will celebrate Eid'l Fitr — the Festival of Breaking the Fast — on Monday, March 31, 2025.

Bangsamoro Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulrauf Guialani made the announcement on Sunday, March 30 after the assigned groups performed moon sighting all over the country.

Earlier, Malacañang declared Tuesday, April 1 as holiday for the observance of Eid'l Fitr.

The sighting of the mooncrescent is crucial in determining Eid'l Fitr as it marks the beginning of the new lunar month of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

Eid'l Fitr is a major Islamic festivity as it marks the end of Ramadan — a month of fasting, which began last March 2, 2025.

The date of Eid'l Fitr and Ramadan may vary in different areas as countries follow independent moonsighting.

Eid'l Fitr, traditionally celebrated for three days, is a time of celebration for Muslims across the world.

Muslims begin the celebrations through prayer in a mosque in the early morning.

The occasion is also marked with the gathering of family and friends, including sharing meals and exchanging gifts.

Saudi Arabia, the heartland of Islam, started their celebration of Eid’l Fitr on Sunday.
