MANILA — A Filipina living in Bangkok confirmed her safety and said no Filipinos have been reported hurt so far, following a 7.7 magnitude earthquake that rocked Myanmar and neighboring country Thailand.

In an interview on Teleradyo Serbisyo, Ember Villavicencio shared her experience of the earthquake, which struck while she was in her fourth floor condominium unit.

"Akala ko parang na-highblood lang ako, parang nayugyog ba, so ayun na nga paglabas ko parang maraming taong nagsisilabasan. Tapos parang nagyugyog na talaga 'yung building," she said. "Dali-dali napo kaming labas."

(I thought it was just high blood pressure, but things began shaking, so we evacuated along with many other people. We ran outside for our safety.)

Villavicencio, who has been living in Bangkok for five years now, said she has already communicated to her family and friends in Philippines to assure her safety.

She also said she has heard no reports yet of Filipinos hurt in Thailand in the earthquake.

Villavicencio said earthquakes are not common in Thailand.

She said she felt more prepared given Manila's frequent preparations for quakes as the country is in the Pacific Ring of Fire.

"Kasi tayo marami na po tayong lindol. Hindi na tayo masyadong kinabahan. Hindi ako masyadong kinabahan [that time], medyo natulala rin po, pero paglabas ko po sa floor namin, marami pong mga taga rito na nandoon lang sa tapat ng elevator nakayuko. Nakita ko 'yung emergency exit, inaya ko sila," she said.

(We have had a lot of earthquakes so we were not as worried. I was a little shocked but when I went out to our floor, I saw many of the other residents crouching near the elevator. I saw the emergency exit and we all went down together.)

She said this was the first earthquake she has experienced living in Thailand.

"Marami pong nagsasabi na Thai friends ko na first time mangyari. Bihira... Kasi sabi nila walang mga fault line po dito. Saka 'yung mga building po dito substandard na," she said.

(Many of our Thai friends said this was also the first time for them. Earthquakes are rare because, they said, they are not on a fault line. And their buildings were not built for earthquakes.)

"In fairness 'yung mga staff dito sa building alerto rin sila. Bigay sila tubig sa mga tao, pinaupo nila, hanggang sa after three hours, inaasikaso po nila kami," Villavicencio said.

(To be fair, building staff were very alert and attentive. They handed out water and assisted people hours after the earthquake.)

The Filipina is now back on floor, while she said her other neighbors found cracks in their units.

The death toll is now over 700 in Myanmar while 1,670 have been reported injured.

In Thailand, there were already nine reported deaths.
