MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has formed a Special Investigation Team and mobilized the National Operating Support Units in Central Luzon to expand the probe into the fatal shooting of stand-up comedian Gold Dagal.

Police Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, PNP spokesperson and Central Luzon police regional director, said the case is no longer solely under the Angeles City Police Station, as a dedicated SIT has been created to ensure a more focused and directed investigation.

(I personally convened the Special Investigation Team to provide focus and direction to the investigation.)

Fajardo said authorities are following leads but cannot disclose details of the ongoing probe.

“As to the motives, marami po tayong tinitingnan diyan.

(We are looking into multiple angles. Some theories about the motive behind his killing have surfaced on social media, and the Angeles City Police Station is also considering these.)

Dagal was known for his deadpan humor, often incorporating socio-political themes and tackling taboo subjects.

In the days leading up to his death, his provocative comedic routines, which included references to an influential religious group, had sparked controversy and drawn backlash.

His mother revealed that he had received threats from individuals offended by his dark humor before the shooting.

According to the initial police report, three unidentified men were involved in the attack in Angeles City in Pampanga.

One of them approached Dagal while he was seated inside an establishment and opened fire, hitting him multiple times. The suspects then fled on foot.

45 firearms,” Fajardo said.

(He sustained a gunshot wound below his eye, which exited through his head. Based on CCTV footage, three individuals were possibly involved in the incident. As for the recovered evidence, we found fired cartridge cases from a .45 caliber firearm.)
