MANILA — Estelito Mendoza, solicitor general to President Ferdinand Marcos and an influential lawyer after his government service, has died.

He was 95.

His family has yet to make an announcement but Philippine National Bank, where Mendoza was a director since 2009, made one in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange.

Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile, who posted about Mendoza's passing, called him "a very, very dear friend, the compleat, brilliant, luminary lawyer" and his "very good and best friend."

He added: "For me, he was one of the best, if not the best, [lawyers] I have encountered and worked with."

Mendoza earned his law degree from the University of the Philippines in 1952 and Master of Laws degree from the Harvard Law School in 1954.

Mendoza was also minister of justice to Marcos as well as governor of Pampanga.
