MANILA -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday turned over the source codes of the automated election system (AES) to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), as part of its commitment to ensure clean and transparent midterm elections.

In the past few months, the poll body held a review of the "trusted build" of the capability of its counting system, making the process available to IT experts, the media, political parties, and other stakeholders to see how the votes for the 2025 elections will be conducted.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia said it was important to make people aware of what they were doing.

"At least masasabi natin because nasa BSP na mismo ang mga source codes ng tatlong system natin, transmission –  protektado ang lahat ng source code," Garcia said in his speech.

"Pag binuksan natin ang vault, makikita natin lahat ng source codes simula 2010 at latest hanggang 2022. Hindi nagagalaw, andiyan, in tact. Laging nandyan ang mga source codes natin to ensure complete transparency," said Garcia.

Comelec officials showed there were 3 envelopes containing the source codes for the consolidation and counting system, election management system, overseas internet voting and counting system, and the automated counting machines.

These envelopes were placed inside a security box, which would then be placed inside a vault in the BSP.
