Sagip Rep. Rodante Marcoleta on Friday asked the House Tri-Committee to summon a vlogger who called him a demon.

Video shown during the hearing showed the vlogger, identified as Epifanio Labrador, cursing Marcoleta and calling him “diablo.”

“Itong si Marcoleta ay talagang demonyo din na katulad ni [Pastor Apollo] Quiboloy…Diablo din tulad ni Quiboloy,” Labrador said.

Labrador has publicly criticized Marcoleta for endorsing the senatorial bid of Quiboloy, founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ religious group in Davao City, despite accusations that the latter is a rapist. Quiboloy was arrested and detained last year due to charges of human trafficking.

Quiboloy and Marcoleta are both on the PDP-Laban senatorial slate in the May 2025 midterm elections.

Marcoleta, a member of the Iglesia ni Cristo, said the committee should summon the vlogger to address these kinds of false narratives.

“Pati ako pinagmumura niya, tinawag niya akong demonyo pero hindi po ako kumikibo…Dapat ipatawag natin,” he said.

“Kahit ano pang sabihin nila, I will just stay as I am, as transparent and accountable as I am. Darating din ang panahon na these people will be rendered useless at walang maniniwala sa kanila.”

The House Tri Committee is investigating the proliferation of fake news in social media.

A Social Weather Stations survey earlier showed 59 percent of Filipinos considered the spread of fake news on social media to be a serious issue, while 20 percent think it was not serious.

The committee earlier said 11 social media personalities and vloggers could face contempt and detention if they continued skipping its probe on disinformation.

Those who may face contempt and detention include former Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Atty. Trixie Cruz-Angeles, former National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) spokesperson Lorraine Marie Badoy-Partosa Aeron Peña, and Allan Troy “Sass” Rogando Sasot.
