MANILA — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said Friday it arrested an online content creator in Cebu who falsely made it appear that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. pushed for the legalization of narcotics.

The suspect altered a post on Marcos’ quotes published by News5, the NBI-Central Visayas Regional Office (NBI-CEVRO) said. 

“While in the course of cyber patrolling, nakita namin ang isang vlogger na nag post na alter na ‘yung post at may caption pa— legal na daw ang droga, grabe ka naman Marcos,”  NBI-CEVRO regional director Rennan Oliva said.

A representative of TV5 Cebu News appeared before the NBI and reported the altered post.

Authorities later identified and arrested the uploader of the malicious post, who said she had been vlogging for three years.

“Meron siyang sari-sari store but she admitted that she is earning more sa pag-vlog niya,” NBI Director Jaime Santiago said.

“Inaresto na kaagad namin para maging babala sa mga nagspi-spread ng fake news, nag-a-alter ng news item na hindi kami titigil. We are seriously considering this now,” he added.

When asked if the content creator earned anything from the alleged disinformation, she tearfully said, “Opo, pero maliit lang siya.”

Santiago said the NBI was investigating other vloggers, one of whom faces arrest warrants for libel.
