MANILA — Hundreds of pet owners from Barangay Bagumbayan, Taguig flocked to the Rockyside Multi-Purpose Building on Wednesday to avail free veterinary services for their dogs and cats.

The one-day event led by the local government and Office of the City Veterinarian offered free deworming, anti-rabies vaccination, microchipping, vitamin shots, and veterinary consultations.

One of the main services was free spaying and neutering, which allocated 150 slots for dogs and cats on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Pet Caravan is held year-round every Wednesday and Saturday in Taguig.

During the activity that started at 7am, pet owners were required to present proof of residence, such as an ID, and secure their pets in cages or on leashes. Diapers were also required for pets to maintain cleanliness at the venue.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), the country has recorded 55 rabies cases from January 1 to March 1, 2025.

The DOH reminded the public that aside from regular vaccination, immediate action is necessary in case of animal bites. Wounds must be washed thoroughly with soap and water, and victims should seek anti-rabies shots at the nearest animal bite center.

For those who missed the free services in their barangays, PhilHealth reminded the public that members needing treatment and vaccination can still avail the rabies benefit package worth P5,850.
