MANILA - Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa lashed out at President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. during a prayer rally for former President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday.

Dela Rosa cited Marcos Jr.s' public stance on the International Criminal Court.

"Laging sinasabi ni President Marcos hindi namin ni-recognize ang ICC. Kasi di kami miyembro. Hindi kami nagco-coordinate sa ICC. Anong ginawa ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos? Interpol," he said.

He also asserted his knowledge about the global policing organization's role.

"Hindi 'yan nanggagaling sa competent authority. Hindi 'yan nanggagaling sa local natin. Hindi 'yan na-recognize natin dahil hindi tayo under sa kanila. Kaya dapat magkaisa tayo," he said.

Dela Rosa served as the first Philippine National Police chief implementing Duterte’s war on drugs. The reelectionist senator was one of the top officials tagged with Duterte in the ICC case.

"Ako naging Chief PNP ako alam ko anong papel ng Interpol sa mundo. 'Wag niyo kong lokohin. Commitment sa Interpol?" he asked.

Marcos Jr. earlier defended the Philippine government’s role in the arrest of Duterte, saying that the arrest was made in compliance with the country’s commitments with the Interpol.

“Interpol asked for help and we obliged because we have commitments to the Interpol which we have to fulfill. If we don't do that, they will no longer help us with other cases involving Filipino fugitives abroad,” Marcos Jr. said.

Duterte was arrested by police officers on Tuesday morning acting on a warrant from the ICC over his war on drugs, shortly after he arrived in the Philippines from Hong Kong.

Duterte, 79, faces a charge of "the crime against humanity of murder", according to the ICC, for the crackdown in which rights groups estimate tens of thousands of mostly poor men were killed by officers and vigilantes, often without proof they were linked to drugs.

Duterte, who was flown to The Hague early this week, made his first appearance at the ICC late Friday evening, Manila time.

In the prosecutor's application for his arrest, he said Duterte's alleged crimes were "part of a widespread and systematic attack directed against the civilian population in the Philippines."

Dela Rosa, meanwhile, expressed concerns about his own potential arrest.

"Hindi ko kayo dinadamay ah pero pinapaalam ko lang sa inyo anytime of the day, pati pagbaba ko sa entablado andyan na sila aarestuhin na ko. Bahala na kayo sige," he told Duterte's supporters.
