MANILA — The Special Action Force officer who was allegedly struck in the head by former President Rodrigo Duterte's partner Honeylet Avancena during his arrest would not file a complaint, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Friday.

The PNP on Thursday showed photos of the officer who sustained a large lump on the head after supposedly being hit with a cellphone by Avanceña during the implementation of an Interpol notice against Duterte.

“Personal desisyon ng pulis na ‘wag magsampa ng kaso dahil kasama sa hazard ng trabaho,” PNP Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said in a phone interview.

Fajardo added that the officer was in stable condition.

“Okay lang siya. Magpapagaling siya, back to work sya,” she said.

Fajardo said the PNP would take care of the officer’s medical needs.

“Siya ay pinagpahinga. Ang kanyang gamot sinasagot ng PNP,” said the official.

She said the PNP would honor the officer for her service.

“Bibigyan natin siya ng katulad commendation dahil sa paggawa ng  tungkulin” Fajardo said.

Duterte was arrested on Tuesday, just weeks before his 80th birthday, on the charge of committing crimes against humanity during the deadly years-long drug war that was his signature policy.

The ICC took him into custody on Wednesday.
