MANILA — A ranking police official on Thursday said that former President Rodrigo Duterte "threatened" retribution during his arrest to face the International Criminal Court over the bloody war on drugs.

Police Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre, director of the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, was part of the team that implemented the ICC arrest warrant as requested by Interpol.

"Mismong si President Duterte ni-remind niya ako na magre-retire ako at aasuntuhin ako ng kaniyang mga anak, mga kamag-anak after my retirement, even before my retirement. thinreaten niya ko," Torre said in a Malacañang briefing.

He added that Duterte's partner Honeylet Avanceña and daughter Veronica — also known as Kitty — verbally and physically assaulted him during the tense moment.

"Pisikal po ay itinulak ako ni Honeylet, tinabig niya ko, at malakas ang pagkatabig nya nung nagkasalubong kami sa hallway. [And] nasa video naman minura ako ng kaniyang anak," Torre said.

(Honeylet pushed and shoved me, and it was a strong shove, when we met in the hallway. And you can see in videos that her daughter cursed at me)

The police officer said he shrugged off the incident as part of the job.

"Everything is okay. Makapal ang ating balat at yan ay kayang-kaya nating palampasin yan (We have thick skin so we can easily let that pass)," he said.

While Torre decided to ignore his altercation with Avanceña, the PNP said it may file direct assault raps against her for a separate incident where she allegedly hit a cop with her cellphone.

Duterte arrived at The Hague, Netherlands early morning Thursday and is in the custody of the ICC.
