The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Thursday confirmed that a Filipino went missing after a collision between a chemical tanker and a container ship off the northeast coast of England.

Based on the reports from the licensed manning agency (LMA), the Filipino crew member was onboard MV Solong that collided with Oil Tanker Stena Immaculate at the NorthSea on March 10, 2025.

He was last seen at the bow of the vessel, the area of the ship that caught on fire after the massive explosion.

The DMW said there are 8 other Filipino seafarers on board MV Solong and all of them were safely rescued.

They are presently accommodated in a hotel in Grimsby, London, as they await their repatriation.

UK authorities have launched an official investigation into the cause of the incident, in coordination with the flag states of the vessels.

The LMA has personally informed the family of the missing seafarer about the situation and committed to providing them with daily updates.

Monday's collision triggered huge fires aboard the two ships, which were still burning two days later although they had been greatly reduced by a huge fire-fighting effort.

Investigations are trying to determine how the Portuguese-flagged Solong cargo ship ran into the US-flagged Stena Immaculate which was anchored about 13 miles (20 kilometers) off the coast of the northeastern UK port of Hull.

UK police on Tuesday already arrested the captain of the Solong, owned by German company Ernst Russ, on suspicion of manslaughter after the crash left one crew member missing, presumed dead.

The DMW said it is in close coordination with the LMA and the families of the affected seafarers to ensure that all necessary assistance and support are being provided during this difficult time.
