MANILA —  Vice President Sara Duterte returned to the Philippines on Tuesday, hours after her father former President Rodrigo Duterte was arrested on a warrant from the International Criminal Court tied to his drug war.

The younger Duterte landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport at around 3 p.m. from Hong Kong, the National Bureau of Investigation said.

"The Vice President is accompanied by her children and will address any relevant matters at the appropriate time," Duterte's office later said.

She and her father had attended a gathering of overseas Filipino workers in Hong Kong over the weekend.

Ex-President Duterte was arrested on Tuesday morning after he landed at NAIA.

The 79-year-old faces a charge of "the crime against humanity of murder", according to the ICC, for a crackdown that rights groups estimate killed tens of thousands of mostly poor men, often without proof they were linked to drugs.
