MANILA -- The Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission said Tuesday it would deport some 1,000 Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) workers in its custody within the week.

PAOCC Executive Director Gilbert Cruz said they were closely coordinating with the Bureau of Immigration on the deportation of the POGO workers, especially because the number of detainees kept increasing after some foreigners opted to voluntarily surrender instead of being arrested in raided POGO hubs.

Last Friday, seven Indonesian POGO workers surrendered to PAOCC.

“Parang pagod na sila sa taguan at hulihan, sabi nga nila hangga't wala kaming kaso ngayon mas maganda umuwi kami magpa-repatriate kami kasi mahirap pag mahuli kami. Ang dahilan nila pag nahuli sila magkakakaso sila makukulong pa. Since pagod na sila, pumupunta na lang sila sa opisina namin para tulungan sila," says PAOCC Executive Director Gilbert Cruz.

Cruz added that some foreigners that detained at their facility were undergoing medical procedures, such as dialysis and HIV treatment.

“Meron pa yung kinakailangang maggamot, buti sinusuportahan ng DSWD. Ito gusto natin magkaroon na tayo ng massive deportation doon sa mga nahuli natin sa POGO operations and were planning to deport 1,000 this coming week. 1,000 deportees, iba't ibang bansa na,” Cruz added.

He noted that cases involving deportees without passports were being coordinated with their respective embassies. The Indonesians in PAOCC custody were undergoing debriefing while their repatriation is being coordinated with the Indonesian Embassy.

Out of 33,863 foreign POGO workers, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported that 11,254 were still in the country, including 518 who have been arrested.
