SC appoints ex-police general Manuel Gaerlan as first chief judiciary marshal

MANILA — The Supreme Court announced the appointment of retired police Brigadier General Manuel Gaerlan as the first Chief Marshal of the newly established Office of the Judiciary Marshals.

Gaerlan took his oath before Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo Monday.

The OJM was created under Republic Act No. 11691 or the Judiciary Marshals Act to address increasing threats against members of the judiciary. 

Gaerlan is expected to lead efforts to ensure the security of judges, court personnel and judiciary properties across the country.

He graduated summa cum laude and was valedictorian of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1985.

Gaerlan served for five years with the Presidential Security Group during the administration of former President Fidel Ramos before retiring from the Philippine National Police in 2018.

After his retirement from the PNP, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Clark Development Corporation and  Chairperson and Chief Finance Officer of Prime Lift and Load Industries, Inc.
