MANILA — The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) justified on Monday its recent logo change from a minimal design to one that now features an eagle, the sun and three stars, and green leaves that form part of circle.

Speaking to the media, MIAA General Manager Eric Ines said it symbolizes a “new beginning” for the agency as it transitioned out of its role as operator of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Ines added that many employees were in favor of the modification, the process of which started in September when the New NAIA Infra Corp. officially took over the operations and management of the Philippines’ main gateway.

“Parang rebirth… Parang iba na ang pamumuhay ngayon kasi regulator na kami ngayon e, hindi na kami operator. And for the next 25 years, we would have to be the regulator,” he explained.

According to Ines, the creation of the new design did not the cost the agency anything.

“In-house yun, wala kaming binayad,” he said, although they would also have to change their letterheads soon which are bound to incur some expenses.

Ines also did not think much of the criticisms online regarding the new look of the MIAA logo.

“Siyempre may kanya-kanyang opinyon tayo but it was a majority sa mga tao natin so they had to do it… You cannot satisfy everyone,” he said.
