MANILA — David D'Angelo, an environmentalist, content creator, and vice president of Bayanihan para sa Kalikasan, is running for a Senate seat in the 2025 elections under the Bunyog Partylist. 

He is also the national president of the Green Party of the Philippines.

D'Angelo, who has spent 30 years working for environmental causes, expressed frustration over the state of the country, especially environmental destruction.

"Di na sana ako sasabak dito kaya lang when you see the state of the environment how mining is destroying the environment, the reclamation, and other projects. Pati agrikultura natin nasisira na, tapos yung corruption rampant," he said.

"I want to stop this, kailangan ng pagbabago. We need to change the system, we need to change the country," he added.

D'Angelo outlined his key priorities, starting with declaring a climate emergency to tackle the worsening environmental crisis.

"Kinakailangan ano yung mga batayang research na nagawa at paano natin yung ilalatag para mamitigate yung climate crisis natin," he said.

D'Angelo also highlighted the food crisis as one of his main agenda points.

He emphasized the importance of supporting local farmers and fishermen, advocating for government-backed resources to improve their livelihoods and ensure the country’s food security.

D'Angelo is likewise advocating for major reforms to combat corruption and improve workers' wages, emphasizing the need for systemic change in government and labor policies.

He believes that putting ordinary citizens at the forefront of anti-corruption efforts is key to eliminating government malpractice.

"Kailangan citizen-led ang corruption agency, taumbayan ang ipasok natin dyan," he said.

In addition to tackling corruption, D’Angelo is pushing for a nationwide wage increase and the abolition of regional wage disparities.

"At least 750 nationwide across the board. Dapat pantay-pantay ang sahod," he said.

According to him, businesses can afford to provide this wage.

"Kumikita naman sila at may assistance ng gobyerno depemde sa mga negosyante. The governemnt should assist sa mga di talaga kaya. Sila ang nagpapatakbo sa ating ekonomiya hindi naman yung mga negosyo," he said.
