Trust ratings of Marcos, Duterte drop in January: SWS

MANILA — The Filipinos' trust in both President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte continue to decline as of January 2025, according to the latest survey by the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

Results from the survey, "conducted in partnership with the Stratbase Group," showed that Marcos and Duterte garnered 50 percent and 49 percent trust rating respectively.

The survey found that Filipinos who indicated “much trust” in Marcos continue to go down, from 54 percent in December 2024 to 50 percent in January.

The number of people who have “little trust” in Marcos barely moved from 25 percent in December to 26 percent in January, while those who are “undecided” went up from 19 percent to 22 percent in the same period.

Strongest support toward Marcos in January still came from Balance Luzon at 60 percent, but it was 6 percent lower than December.

Highest distrust in Marcos was recorded amongst Mindanaoans with 36 percent saying they have “little trust” in the President.

Meanwhile, Duterte’s trust rating went down from 52 percent in December 2024 to 49 percent in January 2025.

But Duterte was still most trusted in Mindanao at 78 percent, although this number is 5 percent lower than her “much trust” rating in the region last month.

The highest number of people with “little trust” in Duterte was recorded in Balance Luzon at 41 percent in January 2025, a 4 percent increase since December 2024.

The latest SWS survey was conducted from January 17 to 20, 2025, and asked 1,800 respondents how much they trust the President and Vice President.
