MANILA -- Senatorial candidate Panfilo Lacson on Friday said reducing the price of rice to P20 per kilo would be difficult to achieve.

"Realistically parang mahirap ma-attain yung 20 pesos per kilo ng rice. Ma-approximate lang sana masaya na tayong lahat. Pero to accomplish 'yung 20 pesos per kilo, ako I’m being pragmatic medyo mahirap," Lacson told a press conference of the Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial ticket in the City of San Jose del Monte Bulacan ahead of the ticket's rally with President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.

Other candidates pushed for government interventions to stabilize the price of food.

"Government must buy 50% of all the outputs of all farmers and fisher folk in the country at their farmgate price.

I cannot pinpoint what the price will be but definitely that is the intent nung proposal na ‘yon para nga bumaba at makinabang ang magsasaka," he added.

"So I think you also need to put more money on our irrigation cause based on the information from the Secretary of Agriculture we have over a million hectares of flat land that still needs irrigation. So imagine the potential of those lands for us to achieve food security and not rely on importation of food," Abby Binay said.

"Kailangan talagang may subsidies at tulong ng gobyerno katulad ng mga declarations ng food emergency in order to reduce the price." candidate Camille Villar said. "So, another way to control the prices in the long term is implement properly yung mga batas na mayroon tayo katulad ng anti-economic sabotage law that has stiffer penalties against rice traders, middlemen for profiteering."

MUTUAL DEFENSE TREATY

Lacson meantime is eyeing more alliances with other countries similar to the Mutual Defense Treaty of the Philippines with the US as a deterrent to Chinese aggression in the West Philippine Sea.

"Kung ang alliance natin mayroon tayong mutual defense treaty with US. Para lumakas ang ating positions sa West Philippine Sea, not to invite war with China but to preempt. Kasi mas maraming alliances with equally strong countries militarily na katulad ng China, makakapag balance ng power yun sa West Philippine Sea," Lacson said.

Lacson also proposed the removal of exemptions and the counterflowing of the EDSA Busway to avoid violations.

"Gawin nating counterflow ang bus sa EDSA. Ang northbound hayaan mo maging southbound. Let the problem solve itself. Lahat iiwas sa head-on collision. At saka walang exempted," Lacson said.

So baligtarin natin.

MISINFORMATION, DISINFORMATION

The candidates also shared their experiences as targets of disinformation.

"O ano nakalagay dito, nakalagay mukha ko, pangalan ko, ginaya talaga ‘yong Facebook account ko. Ang nakalagay send me your phone number for free load of TNT, Globe, Smart. TNT1000, GIGA happening now only 15 people to get free load," Abalos said, "Dagdag ko lamang, noong araw ang number one crime ay pagnanakaw. Ngayon sa PNP records ay cybercrime. So, with in relation with this dapat siguro dagdagan ng budget ang PNP para dito dahil kakaiba ito."

ALYANSA PLATFORMS

The candidates also bared their promises to the city's voters.

"One of the main functions of the Senate and senators is to exercise oversight over existing laws and I think the medical scholarship program that we, that I principally authored, Doktor para sa Bayan will be a big help for San Jose Del Monte Bulacan. San Jose del Monte is the largest city of Bulacan in terms of population and land area. And we need more doctors here," Sotto said.
