Weather forecaster Veronica Torres provides updates on Tropical Depression Querubin on Dec. 18, 2024. Ariel Rojas, ABS-CBN News/File MANILA — In a bid to strengthen its workforce to continue providing reliable weather forecast, state forecaster PAGASA has announced more than 100 permanent job vacancies.

Positions are open at the Central Office in Quezon City, the Aeronautical Meteorological Services Section in Pasay City, and regional and field offices across the country, including the newly established stations in Aklan, Antique, Bataan, Camiguin, Isabela, La Union, Northern Samar, Quezon, Quirino, and Siquijor.

The job vacancies from entry-level to specialized roles, with the corresponding salary grades, are as follows:


• Salary Grade 17 (Php 47,247) 6 Weather Specialist II 3 Weather Facilities Specialist II

• Salary Grade 15 (Php 40,208) 23 Weather Specialist I 2 Weather Observer IV

• Salary Grade 13 (Php 34,421) 2 Weather Facilities Technician III 10 Weather Observer III

• Salary Grade 11 (Php 30,024) 2 Weather Facilities Technician II 26 Weather Observer II

• Salary Grade 9 (Php 23,226) 4 Weather Facilities Technician I 17 Weather Observer I

• Salary Grade 4 (Php 16,833) 3 Weather Observer Aide

• Salary Grade 12 (Php 32,245) 1 Accountant I

• Salary Grade 6 (Php 18,957) 2 Administrative Aide IV

 

For the positions of Weather Specialist I and II, a degree in Engineering or Natural Sciences or any degree with Math up to Integral Calculus and 6 units in Physics is required.

Graduates of any Engineering or Information Technology degree can apply for the Weather Facilities Specialist II position.

The applicant for the positions should have also completed the Meteorologists or Hydrologist Training Course (MTC/HTC) or a master's or doctorate degree in meteorology or any related discipline.

An additional 3-month practicum at the Weather Forecasting Section is required for BS Meteorology graduates and those with master's or doctorate degrees but without the MTC/HTC.

Applicants for the Weather Observer and  Facilities Technician posts should have completed the Meteorological Technicians Training Course (MTTC). For Observer I and Facilities Technician I, 2 years of studies equivalent to 72 units is the minimum educational requirement while for the higher Observer and Facilities Technician positions, a bachelor's degree is needed.

Elementary school graduates can apply for the Weather Observer Aide position while high school graduates or those who finished 2 years in college are qualified for the Administrative Aide post.
