MANILA – In one of the well-lit chapels at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Cubao, Quezon City, a group of singers ageing 8-years-old and above start their day rehearsing for the songs for the Sunday mass.

The choir who calls themselves the Young Voices of the Philippines practices every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday to perfect the melody for their performance for the church-goers.

Three weeks ago, they started practicing songs in preparation for one of their major concerts this year at the Abbey of Our Lady of Montserrat in Mendiola, Manila.

"Viva La Musica" is a special event which will feature the esteemed Spanish organists the father-and-son duo Vicenç Prunés and Ignasi Prunés.

The concert is scheduled on February 26, 2025 at 6:30 pm. The group has put together a selection of Spanish choir and organ pieces. Filipino instruments will also be used like the kulintang.

The choir’s conductor, Dr. Maria Theresa Vizconde-Roldan, expresses her heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to hold this concert as a prayer devoted to Pope Francis who remains critical in hospital due to pneumonia in both lungs.

Roldan wishes for his complete healing and fast recovery.

The group has revered the Pontiff.

Last May 2024, they had the honor of participating in the inaugural World Children's Day where they performed a song of blessing for the Holy Father. Pope Francis even went near them as they showcased their singing prowess.

The Young Voices of the Philippines was launched in 2020. It is one of the scholar choirs of the Treble Choir Association of the Philippines. The members were hand-picked from various choir group in the country as they promote Philippine music across the globe. The group garnered the Best Recording by a Child or for Children during the 36th and 37th Awit Awards.
