Thousands of protesters gathered on Tuesday to mark the 39th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution at the People Power Monument in Quezon City.

Malacanang earlier declared the anniversary of the revolution that ousted Ferdinand Marcos Sr. a special working holiday. Hundreds of academic institutions nationwide however, canceled classes or shifted to alternative modes on Tuesday in what some say is an act of defiance against historical revisionism.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro in a briefing said the administration would not hinder any organization or institution from commemorating the 39th anniversary of non-violent civil protest.
