MANILA -- The head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on Sunday said he was willing to testify against Vice President Sara Duterte should he be called by the impeachment court.

CIDG Director MGen. Nicolas Torre III said this would still depend on the opinion of the justice department and the prosecution panel and whether or not they need the CIDG's testimony.

The CIDG in November launched efforts to track those who Duterte allegedly contracted to exterminate President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. should a kill plot against her succeed.

"Sa ngayon, let me not put the cart before the horse kasi ang investigation kay VP Sara ay ginagawa joint palagi ng NBI at ng CIDG, under the offices of the DOJ," Torre told reporters in a news forum.

"Pero siyempre kapag pinatawag kami, bilang CIDG chief, kapag pinatawag ako in matters I investigated, obviously I have no other course but to appear in the impeachment court kung kinakailangan," he said.

The National Bureau of Investigation served Duterte a subpoena on November 26, and required the Vice President to present herself before the agency to explain why she issued a kill threat against the chief executive.

She, however, excused herself from appearing before the NBI.

The Vice President was impeached by the House of Representatives on charges of "violation of the constitution, betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption, and other high crimes."

Accusations spelled out in the 44-page document include an alleged plot to assassinate President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Marcos and House Speaker Martin Romualdez, a Marcos cousin.

The Vice President earlier said that her comments – taken from an expletive-filled speech where she claimed herself to be the subject of a plot – had been taken out of context. -- With reports from Katrina Domingo, ABS-CBN News
