MANILA — The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) on Friday said there is no funding yet for the P10,000 cash gifts for qualified beneficiaries under the Expanded Centenarians Act who had their "milestone" birthdays in 2024, the year the law was passed.

According to NCSC commissioner Mary Jean Loreche, under the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA), they only received funding for those who will reach their milestone age this year.

"Gusto kong iparating sa inyo na meron tayong tinatawag na GAA, ang budget [na tig-P10,000] para sa ating 80, 85, 80, 95 ay nakalagay sa NCSC, subailit ito ay para sa papasok o magbi-birthday simula January 2025 hanggang Dec. 31, 2025," Loreche told Teleradyo Serbisyo.

The delay could be due to the timing of the passage of the law, which was signed by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. in Feb. 2024, way after the budget law for the year was approved.

Loreche said they are working closely with the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to secure funding for the 2024 beneficiaries of the new law.

"Tuloy-tuloy ang pakikipag-pulong natin sa DBM... Ang hinihingi na lang ng DBM sa atin ay yung mga pangalan ng mga nag-apply na at saka yung birthday nila para ito ay mabigyan ng kaakibat na pondo, it's just a matter of time," she said, without providing a timeline.

On Feb. 26, the NCSC, along with Marcos, will hold its first ever payout for the beneficiaries under the Expanded Centenarians Act, but only those who had their milestone birthdays this year.
