Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on Thursday dispelled speculations that Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista was asked by the President to resign from his post because he was dissatisfied with his performance.

Bersamin, in an interview, reiterated his earlier statement that Bautista resigned as Transportation secretary because of his poor health.

He said Bautista has talked at length with President Marcos Jr. about his condition.

“Secretary Jimmy Bautista signified that he might need to rest because of health issues. And the President was always solicitous of the health of his Cabinet members so when the President and Secretary Bautista talked about it, it became clear to the President that Secretary Bautista will need to take a rest from official duties.,” Bersamin told reporters.

“Secretary Bautista has asked for until February 21. The President naman maunawain yan.”

Malacanang earlier announced that Marcos Jr has named Vince Dizon as incoming Transportation Chief after Bautista steps down later in the month.

Bersamin meanwhile refused to comment on speculations that two other Cabinet officials will soon be replaced.

“I do not know yet how true they are or if there is any basis but usually speculations are always there. Hindi naman namin pwedeng sabihin sa inyo until na nangyari na yan because… we do not have compelling reasons, but speculations are ripe, but we do not dignify speculations,” Bersamin said.
