MANILA — Four respondents have faced inquest proceedings at the Department of Justice in connection by the National Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Agriculture on a warehouse in Bocaue, Bulacan on Monday.

In a text message to NBI reporters, NBI Director Jaime Santiago confirmed that the four individuals were the ones arrested during the raid on a warehouse where rice was being hoarded illegally.

Inquest proceedings are summary investigations conducted by a public prosecutor to determine whether there is probable cause to further detain a person arrested without a warrant and whether an information or formal case should be filed against them in court.

NBI Director Jaime Santiago said Tuesday that rice at the warehouse had been mixed with different varieties of rice and then repacked to be sold at a higher price.

Authorities arrested the warehouse manager, two cashiers and an inventory officer in the raid. The NBI said the four refused to name the owner of the warehouse.

The NBI said they would file complaints of hoarding, adulteration, profiteering, untruthful labeling, and economic sabotage against the four.
