Lopez’s replacement will be the first appointee of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to the high court.

All sitting justices of the Supreme Court are appointees of former President Rodrigo Duterte, including Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, except Senior Associate Justice Marvic Leonen and Associate Justice Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa who were appointed by former President Noynoy Aquino.
