MANILA (2nd UPDATE) — Lawmakers paid tribute to late former senator Juan Ponce Enrile who passed away on Thursday.Enrile, who was being treated for pneumonia, died at home at 4:21 p.m. &quot;surrounded by our family&quot;, his daughter Katrina Ponce Enrile said on her Facebook page, adding there would be a public viewing.Senate President Vicente Sotto III said he would remember Enrile for his &quot;formidable intellect and his compassion&quot; for the people especially to the employees of the Senate.&quot;As we mourn his passing, we find comfort in knowing that the legacy of Manong Johnny will live on, etched within the walls of the Senate and his service to the nation will forever be in the hearts of many Filipino.&quot;Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri described Enrile as a &quot;great legal mind&quot; who he said was known for his master of legal principles.&quot;As a legislator he approached every bill and every hearing with remarkable discipline, always insisting on careful reading, thoughtful questions and thorough debate.&quot; <div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/11/13/juan-ponce-enrile-passes-away-1733">Juan Ponce Enrile passes away</a></div>Zubiri said Enrile was &quot;generous with his time toward younger colleagues&quot; who sought his counsel, adding many in government today &quot;can say they learned valuable lessons on preparation, argumentation and institutional memory from observing him at work.&quot; <div> </div><div>&#x27;PAALAM, MANONG JOHNNY&#x27; </div>Sen.r Jinggoy Estrada called the late former lawmaker a &quot;father figure&quot; who helped him in his early terms at the Senate. &quot;The nation has lost one of its greatest and most formidable minds.
