MANILA - The National Bureau of Investigation – Cavite North District Office (NBI-CAVIDO North) has arrested a Japanese national and 2 Filipinos for grave threats in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act. The operation stemmed from a complaint filed by two Japanese nationals who accused the suspect  of threatening to kill them and extorting money following a botched renovation deal.“Itong Japanese national nag reklamo sa amin 2 silang magkaibigan, allegedly may threat na ginagawa sa kanila ang isang japanese with 2 accomplice na mga Pilipino” says NBI supervising agent Joseph Furing.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/8/26/nbi-arrests-3-in-pasay-for-falsification-immigration-officer-tagged-in-trafficking-cybercrime-1710">NBI arrests 3 in Pasay for falsification; immigration officer tagged in trafficking, cybercrime</a></div>According to the complaint, the suspect hired one of the victims, a contractor, for the renovation of his supposed coffee shop worth ₱4.7 million. The contractor later discovered that the establishment was neither owned nor leased by the suspectDespite this, the project continued, with the contractor receiving an initial payment of ₱3.3 million.When the suspect failed to pay the remaining balance, he allegedly urged the contractor to take out a loan, promising repayment from the sale of his property in Japan—a deal that never materialized.“Nagkaroon ng kontrata na gumawa ng renovation ng project almost 70 percent na natapos kaso, kaso nauubusan ng funds itong subject. Ginawa ng suspect para matuloy ang proyekto, ang victim mismo ang inutusan niya mag loan para matuloy ang proyekto. yung nangongotrata dapat ang kumolektata pero ang subject siya pa nagpapautang, pangako ay babayaran” Furing adds.On September 20, 2025, the suspect  and his 2 male cohorts, who were said to be former policemen, reportedly met with the complainants and threatened to kill them or have them arrested if they failed to pay a supposed penalty.“Sila (2 Filipino accomplice) ang parang pang attack aside sa sinasabing Yakuza member (yung japanese) may Pilipino na tinatakot siya, ang sinasabi- may kuneksyon kami, kaya ka namin patayin, kung mahal mo ang iyong pamilya sumunod ka sa gusto namin” Furing further revealed.In the entrapment operation, the suspects were arrested upon receiving the marked money.
